Colm Brennan Woodturning Lathe Image

Welcome to Colm Brennan Woodturning. My name is Colm and my passion is in the art of Woodturning. The art can be described as the action of shaping wood with a lathe but it is much more than that.

Woodturning is an art-form where no two pieces produced are ever identical due to the use of local wood. I source all the wood I use locally from Sligo though on occasion may visit other counties in Ireland to sample their local wood. I fully handcraft all the pieces and some may take days if not weeks to create.

My specialty is Segmented wood turning, also known as polychromatic turning. This is a challenging skill that few in Ireland are practicing and one which takes much precision and patience to create a finished piece. But although vases like in the image below can take 4 -5 days to create one, the finished piece is worth the time and effort and I take pride in both the finish and design of these product.

My workshop is located in The Benbulben Craft Village, Rathcormac in Sligo, Ireland. I turn there most mornings and there is also a farmers market every Saturday from 10am – 2pm. The market opens with a selection of local crafts from wood turned pieces, to Horsehair Pottery, handcrafted cards and art pieces to fresh bread, vegetables – well worth a visit if you are in the area.
